Brussels is the city of comics! as Brussels based ngo with a focus on the Arab world, we are happy to invite you to a panel discussion about visual culture in the Arab world, specially in Lebanon, Egypt, and Tunisia, with:
Barack Rima: between Brussels and Beirut. He is a comics artist and a film maker. And a member of Samandal Comics comics association (Beirut). Some of his comics works : Cairo storyteller (in French, La Cafetière, 1998) ; De Brusselmansen (in Dutch, weekly in Brussel Deze Week newspaper, 1998-2003) ; Beyrouth and Beyrouth bye bye (in French, Plan BEY, 2013 – 2015) ; Sociologia (in Arabic, weekly in Al Akhbar newspaper, 2014-2015) Nap before noon (in Arabic, Samandal Comics, ongoing)
Mohammed Shennawy: is an illustrator and graphic designer, from Cairo. His illustrations were published in several newspapers since 2000, he is one of the co-founders and an editor in TokTok توك توك magazine which was published in 2011. Shennawy also founded “Cairo Comix” festival in Cairo, founded and is the director of the “9th Art Foundation” which publishes Arabic picture books. He currently dwells in Brussels, Belgium.
This panel discussion is moderated by:Ines Baccouche: Her passion for art and love for her hometown Tunisia drive her to create “Art for ness”, an online gallery dedicated to the promotion of MENA region’s artists and artworks. Art For Ness can be translated to “art for all” or “art for the people” that embraces the beauty and love by carefully selected prints and comics like Lab619, while mixing quality with fair prices.
